Operation Queer On Friday, July 8, 2016, Fredman Barahona and Guillermo Saenz of Operation Queer, along with 2boys.tv (Stephen Lawson and Aaron Pollard) and Alexis O'Hara from Montreal and students from Managua's art school, Espira Espora, performed "Tightrope" in Granada's Casa de Tres Mundos. The performance is not easily defined: beginning with a funeral procession through town, with shouts of grief, mourning a generation of those lost to AIDS and whose memories have faded with time, to an on stage drag queen show, silhouette performances behind a backdrop of newspaper, cycles made up of monologues, instrumental and a cappella song, creating a performance tightrope barely balanced between chaos and order, celebrating queer identity. It was both bizarre and profound, visually obvious and inscrutably layered with meaning. Leading up to the performance, the artists were sequestered for hours and hours, undertaking the transformation from chrysalis to wings, revealing, unmasking their queerness layer by layer. The artists were mesmerized by their own image, never straying far from mirrors, as if waiting, watching patiently at every step, for their own rebirth.
